Hurry up and wait

The last couple weeks have been a challenge for me.

After making so much progress learning how the tractor works, mowing the field, buying the seed… I really thought we were moving right along.
However I have hit a bit of a snag. I don’t have a seed drill.

So the whole point of the farm is to be a conservation farm, right? And as such I have been really looking into what is called “No-Till” planting.
Essentially the gist of it is you don’t ‘till’ (churn up) the land before you drill the seed into the ground.
The concept being is that the root structure, fungi, worms and stuff are necessary to keep the ground healthy and tilling too much can basically ruin all of that.

In comes the No-Till seed drill (I swear im not sponsored):

So this dohicky , it has a blade that cuts the ground, then dual blades in a sort of V split open the land.

Then the container holding the seed drops the seed into the slit at a steady rate.
Finally the last back part closes up the slit.
Supposedly this is a TON better for the environment. Its also a shit ton more expensive.

This is why I reached out to the Conservation District, they have a program specifically to help farmers like me get into No-Till planting

Buuuut im putting them on blast because they have been dragging their feet.
Its been pretty hard to be taken seriously, which is annoying because this kinda farm is exactly what the program is for.

So I have a bunch of PNW Native Pollinator and Grass seed just sitting in the barn because I dont have a drill.
Im actually looking into just BUYING one at this point to move things along and so that I am set for future planting.
Hard to pull the trigger in this economy though, so we wait and see.

Man I am BAD at this! But hopefully I get a little better every day.
