Progress.. no matter how small
Well *groans*that was certainly a day!
This morning our friendly non-neighborhood dealer was kind enough to drive out 3 hours to the farm to take a look at the tractor.
The local dealer I bought from unfortunately closed down, but this dealership has been very great to work with and cuts me slack on travel fees.
The tech got right to work, and after some fiddling and checking things with the laptop, found a possible solution. A nut that controls how far up and down the 3 point goes.
I thanked him for his help and got to work.
EXCEPT
I realized when I was watching him work, what the real issue was haha. Which honestly was all I wanted so im good with that.
In the end it WAS user error. It seems that the 1-5 height settings on the 3 point aren’t set locations.
MEANING, that if you MANUALLY kept the bars in place while moving the setting, say like when you improperly put on a new implement you dont know, you could change what height that setting is.
It was pretty obvious when he stood on it and dropped the bars down really low and they stayed at the height when he turned the engine on.
Moral of this costly $1000+ story?
Muscle grease. Every time.
Oh well now I know.
Cut my seed bags, tossed it in, and set it to the right opening setting. Then got rolling along!
Unfortunately, this would end on our a sour note.
I kept checking the seed bin as I was doing my lines back and forth in the fields, and it wasnt really emptying.
I confirmed I had the chutes open to full, checked with the conservation district for advice, and manually stirred the seed/rotated the device.
It just wasnt really dropping much.
I did the same areas for a good 3 hours, and even after all of that I managed to only use about 25% of the seed.
Will have to shop vac up the rest of the seed hopefully out of the seeder and maybe save it for another attempt later.
But if not, I still learned a lot despite the costs, and we took small steps forward to our goal of a conservation farm.
Thats good enough for now!
